  • The snowy owls have been traveling further south for the past several years. This was the first winter I was able to see them for myself. They tend to draw big crowds and I am all about no stress or disturbance when I'm photographing wildlife. So I was in and out. But very exciting to see them in person for the first time. This shot was taken early in the morning. I drove around with another photographer that day to see if we could find any others, and we did see another one way in the distance at Parker River WF. Snowy owls travel south from the Arctic tundra in the winter time search of food, depending on the availability of prey, they can travel far distances south of the Canadian border. They are day-time hunters and are active from dawn to dusk. They will return to the arctic in the spring before their breeding season starts in the summer. © Christie Wrazen 2018, Salisbury MA, tripod-mounted.
